CDC: Dangers of being overweight overstated

It seems to me that something this wrong reflects tremendously poorly on science in general and epidemiology in particular. Basically, what the relevant scientists are telling us is to ignore anything the scientific establishment says. It makes me take Karry Mullis seriously.

Invented PCR, key biotech advance. Won Nobel Prize. Decided that scientific institutions were completely corrupt and that the basic assumptions behind most current scientific research (most famously, the belief that HIV causes AIDS, but many others as well)were false. Wrote a book "dancing naked in the mind field" where he presents this attitude.
