Helpful - backups

[See previous]

This goes along with the Windows XP security tips I mentioned a couple of weeks ago:

Backup basics: What to know before a crisis

You can't have a secure system unless you are backing it up.

Comments:
The absolute best backup is a second computer. I have two machines that I regularly go back and forth between, keeping them both updated with the software and data I use. They're networked together, so that makes it easier.

This has all kinds of advantages:

If one has problems, I can compare it against the other.

If one has problems, I can still use the other to access the Internet for trouble-shooting.

I also don't have to drop everything to fix a broken computer right away.

A second computer is just not that expensive so it really doesn't make sense not to have one.
